Virgina Communities

The Commonwealth of Virginia is also known as the Mother of Presidents. The nickname comes out of the fact almost 10 U.S. presidents were born here. Conflict played a major part in shaping Virginia. There was the French War, the Indian War, the American Revolution and the Civil War. Yet for every confrontation there are significant contributions from those same cultures, the Europeans, Africans, Native Americans and more. One conflict that has been romanticized for history is the timeless story of Pocahontas and her love for John Smith.

Today, from Rocky Mount to Wirtz, from Boones Mill to Moneta, Virginia is seen as a strong, independent, principled community. It is considered the birthplace of both the South and America, with its culture spread by historic figures like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Robert E. Lee. From literature to the performing arts and classic southern cooking, Virginia and its residents celebrate life.
